The (tv) starting lineup

7 Sep

I just looked at the fall tv schedule, and it doesn’t look all that great. In years past, there has been great excitement over various series and season premieres. This year’s lineup features a bunch of new shows, and some old. But the old ones are either fading fast (i.e. Grey’s Anatomy, One Tree Hill) or not popular to begin with. I just counted five shows that I plan on watching this fall. Three are new and two are returning. There are various other shows that I have simply stopped watching all together. I have to commend CW for winning my attention this fall. I’m coming back for a second season of the hate-it or love-it 90210 and the Lucas/Peyton-less One Tree Hill. I could see OTH slipping, but I expect 90210 to keep my attention. I figure to watch the spin-off Melrose Place, considering it looks semi-interesting and it’s on after the similar 90210. I also plan to watch the uplifting Glee, which many of us caught for one episode last May on FOX. Let’s hope it doesn’t let down. And as of now I also plan on catching the new show on ABC called ‘Flashforward.’ Since the best show ever (no bias there, right?) LOST won’t be starting its final season until January, I plan on watching this show in hopes that it will remind me of LOST. So those are my five. They will turn to (gasp!) seven with the January premieres of LOST and The Bachelor (woo). At that point, I have no allegiances, and any of these five could be dropped. And you can’t forget reality shows, but I don’t set my own time aside for nonsense. If Real World, The City or The Hills are on while I’m watching tv, then sure I may watch. And don’t forget the Kardashians. They’re always on. 🙂 And then there is the ongoing show that never stops: SportsCenter. Always reliable. And there’s not much reliability we can count on these days, right?

You can find a lot more than black gum on the streets of DC

7 Jul

Like most people, I haven’t met many famous people. I have been lucky enough to meet various athletes, both college and professional, and once had Christina Aguilera say hi to me in a video. But other than that, nada. And I keep reading about all of these famous sightings in Washington, D.C. I have been to DC and New York multiple times, and have never seen any celebrities. That was until yesterday. And today. It’s not like these people are superstars; they are not even recognizable to most people. But yesterday, I was in DC in the Dupont Circle area. The Real World, a show on MTV just began filming in the Dupont area just last week. After 22 seasons, DC finally got to be the location for the 23rd. So obviously my sister and I wanted to see the house. So we are walking down to see it, when all of a sudden we see a full out camera crew surrounding about six young people. It was the cast of Real World: DC, which probably won’t air until October. We followed them for about two blocks and then they stopped at some yoga place and we decided to stop being stalkers. It was still pretty cool though, and maybe there’s an outside chance I could be on tv. Plus I got pictures of the house (it used to be a dump) and some of the cast (your usual mix of people). So those people are not quite famous, but come this fall, their faces will be plastered all over MTV for four straight months. And then, maybe other people will actually stop to notice them. There were a ton of cameras, etc. and not one person stopped to stare. Good thing we were there.

Then today, I was in DC again (I know, I never go two days in a row 🙂 ), and my sister and I were walking. She wanted to stop in H&M, so we did. Then I bought sunglasses, and I got handed a receipt, which would surprisingly come in handy. So we’re making our way up to Verizon Center when I see this tall guy creeping down the street. It’s the Wizard’s second year player, 7-foot tall forward JaVale McGee. He was kind of swerving while walking, if you can do that, and would just stop to sit on random cars. So I asked my sister if she had a pen, and she did, but for paper, all she had were little business cards and stuff with writing all over them. So I thought, “I’ll use my receipt.” She wouldn’t go up with me (which blows my mind), so I went up and said hi and that I was a huge Wizards fan (which of course I’m not) and asked for his autograph. I handed him a receipt and pen, and the dumb pen wouldn’t work, so I’m calling for my sister to get me a pencil and she’s standing there talking on the phone. But he got the pen to work (that’s what two years of college will get you). So I got his autograph with some scribbles too. I told him good luck for the season, and I think he said thanks. But that’s all he said. Still cool though. Not one person noticed him either though. Washingtonians need to get with the program!

DC is such an underrated city. There are so many cool areas, and apparently, some famous people too.
