We are the champions…of the world

7 Feb

We did it!

And to think there almost wasn’t a season…okay, so we all figured the NFL would reach a deal, that’d there’d be games played. Thank goodness! Because the NY Giants are Super Bowl champs! How did this even happen? Let’s recap…there was the strong start to the season where the G-Men simply looked good. Then there was the downfall, highlighted by the blowout loss to the Saints (which I couldn’t watch) and the last-second field goal loss to the Packers (in which I through a book across the room). But then came the comeback. Jets. Cowboys. Falcons. Packers. 49ers. Patriots. See ya. SB champs. That’s how it’s done. When the Giants were on, they were on. And each win was a total team effort. Coaches and players. But I still have to give props to Eli Manning. My faith in him has never wavered. I’ve always said I want him as my QB over anyone else. The Giants wanted it so bad. And they got it. The best feeling in the sports world is those few minutes right after your team wins it all. I’ve been fortunate enough to experience it twice. Thanks Giants. There’s not much better than being world champions. Great season.

A state of error

29 Sep

This is the state of my teams:

Another season on the outs for the Mets. It seems like another team is making the playoffs every second. But not the Mets.

The Nets aren’t getting Carmelo (surprise, surprise!) and now Devin Harris is unhappy about the whole thing. I thought you couldn’t get worse than 12 wins…

The Giants, meanwhile, are 1-2 and have a ton of issues to sort out. And they’ve been receiving press shedding them in a not-so-hot light.

SU Women’s Volleyball team lost the first game of the season against an inferior opponent.

Oh boy, there’s a lot of fixin’ to do. Why can’t I like the Yankees/Phillies, Heat/Lakers, Saints/Colts, and Alabama football? I guess if you win all the time it’s not that fun either…though I’d take it!

S’aint it great to be marching!

In honor of the Saints winning the Super Bowl, I’ve decided to share some of my favorite headlines that were published in today’s media outlets.

ESPN: The Big Easy Does It

Washington Post: Lombardi Gras

New York Times: The Saints! Dat’s Who!

New Orleans Times Picayune: Amen!

A saint or a colt? I’ll ride the colt

7 Feb

I said this last year in my Super Bowl preview, and I’ll say it again. It is too hard to pick a definite winner in today’s Super Bowl. Either team could win, and either team could just as easily lose. The Colts have the better record and Peyton Manning, but Drew Brees isn’t too shabby himself. My gut is to go with the Colts, but I would not be surprised if the Saints won.

The Super Bowl is about the only event (besides Obama’s election) that brings the whole country together. Even if people don’t like the game itself, they watch for the commercials or the food at the parties. If you don’t watch the Super Bowl, what are you doing? The Super Bowl isn’t just a sports game, it’s the entertainment event of the year.

The Final Four

20 Jan

It pays to rest up

17 Jan

Going into this weekend, all four of the playoff matchups had a similar vibe. There was the lower, hotter seed, versus the sagging, higher seed. The Cardinals were coming off of a wild win over the Packers, while the Saints had lost three straight but were still the number one seed. The Ravens had thrashed the Patriots and the number one Colts had lost two straight. But yesterday, the better teams throttled the hot teams, with the Colts and Saints getting back on the winning track in annoyingly lopsided games.

Now today, the slumping Vikings are currently leading the red hot Cowboys 17-3. More of the same? We will have to see. But if the Vikings win, and the Chargers continue the trend against the Jets tonight, then this will be the first time in a while that the top teams actually come out on top.
