And to think there almost wasn’t a season…okay, so we all figured the NFL would reach a deal, that’d there’d be games played. Thank goodness! Because the NY Giants are Super Bowl champs! How did this even happen? Let’s recap…there was the strong start to the season where the G-Men simply looked good. Then there was the downfall, highlighted by the blowout loss to the Saints (which I couldn’t watch) and the last-second field goal loss to the Packers (in which I through a book across the room). But then came the comeback. Jets. Cowboys. Falcons. Packers. 49ers. Patriots. See ya. SB champs. That’s how it’s done. When the Giants were on, they were on. And each win was a total team effort. Coaches and players. But I still have to give props to Eli Manning. My faith in him has never wavered. I’ve always said I want him as my QB over anyone else. The Giants wanted it so bad. And they got it. The best feeling in the sports world is those few minutes right after your team wins it all. I’ve been fortunate enough to experience it twice. Thanks Giants. There’s not much better than being world champions. Great season.

The Giants won again yesterday, their fifth straight, to improve to 6-2. Did anyone besides Giants fans notice? Probably not. The Giants have been quietly dominating their opponents (yesterday was 41-7) in their six wins. The Jets, meanwhile, have been dominating the front pages and the headlines even though they have the same record as the G-Men. I can’t remember the last time the Jets were the attention getters. But if you ask any Giant, I’m sure they would say they like where they are. I don’t know many athletes who like to receive all the attention. A lot like to fly under the radar and surprise opponents. The G-Men won’t be doing any surprising because of their record. But they will continue to dominate. The NFC West must be awful considering the Giants dominated their supposed best team. This Giants team reminds me of their 2007 squad. Let’s hope for the same end result.
The pride of New Jersey…err New York
14 SepJust because you talk sh** off the field doesn’t mean you can lay a stinker on it. Jets. Yeah, I’m calling you guys out. I don’t care if it’s one game. I’m sure you’ll turn it around. But for now, the pride of New York goes to the New York Football Giants. The real and only team of New York. Ask anybody who’s not a Jets fan, and they’ll tell you who New York’s team is. I read an article in the New York Times in August about Giants players and other non-biased people saying who New York’s team was. Keith Bulluck, who just joined the Giants this season, went to Syracuse, and grew up a Mets fan, admitted that the Yankees were the baseball team of New York. So you know he’s being honest when he says the Giants are New York’s football team. As a Mets fan, I’ll admit the Yankees top us in popularity (okay, maybe wins too). But that doesn’t make them any better than the Mets. However in football’s case, the Giants are not just more popular than the Jets but are better in every facet too. The Jets won Super Bowl Three. When was that, the Stone Ages? The Giants meanwhile, just won it back in 2008. And they won it multiple times in the 1990s.
So that brings us to the Giants and Jets of today. On Sunday, the Giants took care of business and beat the Panthers. No trash talking. We do our talking with helmet hits. On Monday, the Jets faced a tough Ravens team and failed. 10-9. That is ugly. For all the talk in the pre-season on Hard Knocks and how their sh** don’t stank, that’s one hell of an egg they laid. Hey, at least the defense was okay.
Mets, Giants, and Jets, oh my!
17 AugSo now K-Rod’s done for the year, thumb and all. Unfortunately, it seems like the Mets are done for the year too. They had a nice early summer run, but it couldn’t hold up.
At least the Giants are back. Their first preseason game was Monday night against the Jets. Is it just me, or do the Jets seem overly confident and cocky? They did make the AFC Championship game last year, but they weren’t that great during the regular season. And that makes them kings of New York? Please. They’re still on Giants turf, and everyone but them and their fans realizes that.
How about the Hudson river Nets?
23 MarThe New Jersey Nets will only exist for this season and the next. No, they are not dissolving despite this season’s record. They are actually moving to Brooklyn (finally!) like we all know. So their name will change. There has been debate over whether they will be called the Brooklyn Nets or the New York Nets. But definitely not the New Jersey Nets. In terms of the new options, I don’t care for either. They already were the New York Nets in the ABA. Too confusing. As for the Brooklyn Nets? Doesn’t sound right. Only the NJN, New Jersey Nets does. The Giants and Jets still go by New York even though they play in Jersey. I guess that is different. God forbid they ever associated themselves with New Jersey. Seriously though, I will miss the New Jersey in the name. They already got rid of their jerseys that have “New Jersey” on the front. I’m not even from New Jersey, and that still bothered me. The least they can do is keep the name. But I don’t blame them for wanting to swap the Jersey with York. After this season, who would?
It pays to rest up

Going into this weekend, all four of the playoff matchups had a similar vibe. There was the lower, hotter seed, versus the sagging, higher seed. The Cardinals were coming off of a wild win over the Packers, while the Saints had lost three straight but were still the number one seed. The Ravens had thrashed the Patriots and the number one Colts had lost two straight. But yesterday, the better teams throttled the hot teams, with the Colts and Saints getting back on the winning track in annoyingly lopsided games.
Now today, the slumping Vikings are currently leading the red hot Cowboys 17-3. More of the same? We will have to see. But if the Vikings win, and the Chargers continue the trend against the Jets tonight, then this will be the first time in a while that the top teams actually come out on top.
